DX Marathon "Sprint"

Posted on May 20 2025 by Mark Wohlschlegel • WC3W

I wish to provide you with an announcement that I made in my presentation in Dayton. Your DX Marathon staff has agreed to do something special in a few months. As most of you know, we try to “think out of the box” and look for ways to make our program even more enjoyable for our participants and of course attract new participants. As a way to accomplish this objective, we have come up with a mini-Marathon or what we are calling a “Sprint” that will occur this Fall. We are still developing the rules but rest assurd, as is the case for our full Marathon, it will be made as simple as possible to attract new participants to our program and of course provide some fun for our regulars.
The Sprint will start on October 17, 2025 at 00:00Z. It will continue for 11 days and close on October 28, 2025 at 00:00Z We will have six classes, Unlimited, Limited, Formula (2) , and QRP (2) just as the rules state for 2025. There will be no band or mode or Challenge Class options. All entries will include digital, CW, and SSB QSO’s. The plan will be to issue beautiful certificates for everyone that has entered showing their relative ranking in areas like world, zone, continent, call sign area, etc. This is yet to be determined but the point is, everyone will receive a certificate showing their score and relative rank in the three most favorable categories for each participant.
No plaques will be issued. Our intentions is to see how this goes and if it has a positive outcome, we will plan on doing it again in the future.

Submissions will be made by the following Sunday utilizing our submission tool on our website, exactly as you will do for the full Marathon.
You will generate and adif file from your logging program and upload that to the site.

In case you did not notice, we have wrapped the Sprint around the CQ Worldwide SSB contest that occurs on the weekend of October 25-26. We did this in hopes that contesters would try out the Marathon. Any DX worked during the contest of course can be claimed in the Sprint as long as it is logged at the same station used during the entire Sprint window.

Of course as we are establishing the rules, any comments will be appreciated as this is for you, our participants, our customers! Our target is to make a formal announcement with rules in August followed by a second posting in September and one last one about two weeks before the Sprint. Please mark your calendarsand plan to participate.
